Benefits of Roof Repointing
Most roof pointing on older houses around Adelaide will be the original inflexible kind of sand and cement based pointing. This pointing was cheap and easy to source at the time but really did not perform as well as modern repointing equivalents. The new pointing compounds in use today actually have polymers and rubbers built into the mix. They are know as flexible pointing compounds. Even the best installed roof will have some expansion and contraction movement over seasons and sometimes just during a normal day and night cycle. The flexible pointing actually flexes and moves with the roof rather than just cracking at the first bit of movement and is such an improvement from the pointing products of years gone by.

Its rare that we under take roof repointing in isolation to other roof work. In almost all cases it gives the client greater value to have a full roof restoration including roof repointing undertaken rather than just repointing alone. The roof will usually need to be pressure cleaned prior to repointing to give a good surface bond. The cost of roof pointing and restoration in Adelaide really depends on the house and the roof type. We don’t tend to use square metre rates but look at each job separately. The roof pitch and access to a site often influence the quoted price more than the overall size of the roof. We only use the best quality market leading roof pointing and coating products from Dulux and while this adds a little to our cost base the finished outcome is well worth it.

Roof pointing is the visible sandy looking substance between your ridge and hip cap tiles and above the roof tiles or roof surface. It takes up all the gaps between the cap tiles and roof tile surface and bonds th cap tile to the roof.
Yes quite different indeed. Unfortunately these terms are used quite loosely in the industry and specific terminologies can become quite confusing for consumers sometimes. The bedding is actually not visible and is buried beneath the cap tile. When installing a new roof the bedding mixture is put down on top of the roof tiles and cap tiles placed on top. Once the bedding mixture has dried the roof tiles are able to apply the pointing to the sides of the tile and the job is eventually done. Remember bedding is not visible without removing a cap tile.
