Mid Grey Roof Colour
Mid Grey is the colour for people who want a grey roof without the heat that comes with Monument or Charcoal. It is a balanced, neutral grey, noticeably lighter than the dark options and close to what Colorbond call Shale Grey, which is the name most people search for when they picture this colour. That lightness is the whole point. Dulux publish a solar absorptance figure for every colour in the Acratex range, and the gap between the darkest and the mid tones is not marginal: Charcoal absorbs over 90 per cent of the solar energy hitting it, and Mid Grey sits well below that. On an unshaded Adelaide roof with a poorly insulated ceiling space, that difference is something you feel in February. It also sits comfortably on almost any wall colour, which is why it turns up on both tile and metal roofs. The two roofs below are a 1920s Toorak Gardens cottage with 42-year-old iron sheeting that had oxidised chalky white, and a Summertown tile roof over 40 years old that had never been maintained.
